Madrid is a great city for sightseeing and leisurely spending time outdoors. Visiting Buen Retiro Park is a favourite pastime of Madrileños – which is what inhabitants from Madrid are known as. The urban park is centered around a peaceful lake, and it offers a great escape from the bustling city. It’s the perfect place to have a siesta if you find yourself outside during a hot afternoon while visiting Madrid during the summer.
If you’re an art lover, you won’t want to miss out on visiting some of Madrid’s famous art museums, such as Museo Corolla or the Prado National Museum. The Prado is a world-class museum that boasts one of the largest art collections in the world, and is most famous for its Spanish pre-20th century works by Goya, Velasquez, and El Greco. Also consider visiting Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, another of Madrid’s well-respected art museums. To top off any day of sightseeing in Madrid, treat yourself to one of Spain’s most popular snacks, the churro.
