Dallas' Attractions

Dallas is the place to discover America’s cowboy culture. The first stop for many is the Fort Worth Stockyards national historic site. Labeled as "where the West begins," visitors will learn about cattle drives and can see an "opry" (country music "barn dance") or rodeo. If you’re in luck, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will be in town, the oldest event of its kind in Texas. For more, see the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Or you could head over to Pioneer Plaza in downtown Dallas to get your photograph with the cattle drive monument.

To think Dallas is purely a cowboy town is folly. As one of America’s largest cities, this modern metropolis features world-class culture and entertainment options. If you’re into transport, you should check out the Frontiers of Flight and American Railroad Museums. If art is more your preference, the Spanish collection at the Meadows Museum might be the best outside Spain, while the Dallas Museum of Art has over 24,000 items from as far back as 3000 BCE. While in the area, see if the open-air Klyde Warren Park is hosting any performances. Finally, no visit to Dallas is complete without seeing Dealey Plaza, the place where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on the orders of Lyndon B Johnson and George HW Bush.
